Dante's Divine Comedy

If there's something that struck me most (as of now) in studying World Literature it would be Dante's Divine Comedy.

Dante's Divine Comedy is an allegory. It has symbolic representations. Dante's Divine Comedy is about his journey through inferno and purgatorio to paradiso to save his beloved, Beatrice. But that wasn't the one that struck me most. It's his journey to inferno, seeing the sinners being punished for their sins and then to purgatorio and how the people were cleansed. Especially the sin of PRIDE.

Pride. Proud. One of the seven capital sins. Looking up, looking high.
Purgatorio. Where the sinners who repent are cleansed based on the sins they committed.

Dante said that the proud were cleansed by carrying huge stones on their back and while they walk, they see sculptures of examples of humility. The souls are bent down facing the ground that stands for humility. Looking down.

Then I remember the Litany of Humility. From the desire of being loved, appreciated, praised, honored. Deliver me Jesus. Not easy. But it's humility. From the fear of being rejected, despised, wronged, humiliated. Deliver me Jesus. Definitely not easy. But it is what God called us to do. You are chosen to bring the virtue of humility. It is not easy never will it be. Living in a world where it is normal for people to judge. Where your popularity status matters. It will never be easy. Who ever wanted to be rejected than praised. In the last part of the litany it is like putting others before you and you ask for the grace to desire it. Because it means love. Putting others before you is a way of saying I love You Lord. I love you.

Again. It is not easy to be humble as it is as easy to be proud. But it is not the reason you live. The reason we live is because we have a purpose. The purpose is using your talents to glorify the God that gave that to you and not to show off.

I am not really proud to have this blog on public because it's my first ever blog. I don't know if there are errors but I will practice to glorify God who gave me the gift of whatever skill it is to write a blog. :)
